The A3 range is one of Audi's most expansive, and at the Paris Motor Show, Audi unveiled the latest addition to the line, which continues tradition whilst also offering something new.
As the first RS saloon model since 2010, the RS 3 Saloon is a fresh face for the Audi fleet and it employs the award-winning 2.5-litre TFSI five-cylinder engine to offer excellent performance to the lightweight model.
The engine's crankcase has been made out of a light alloy to cut 26 kilograms off, and with dual injection and the Audi valvelift system, these changes have helped to make this updated five-cylinder unit the most powerful of its kind. These changes have yielded improved figures, with the engine pumping out 394bhp and a top speed of 174mph.
When teamed with the seven-speed S tronic dual clutch gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive system, the RS 3 Saloon offers fantastic driving and reassured control in all conditions. Integrated into the drive select system, quattro can be controlled alongside the engine modes, steering feel, gearbox response and exhaust flaps, with Audi drive select offering comfort, auto and dynamic modes for your preferred feel.
The tuned ESC system helps to provide great control, as when turning into a corner, the ESC brakes the inner wheels for greater lateral power delivery.
To distinguish between the standard and RS saloon versions, Audi has added dynamic exterior features such as flared wheel arches, dark honeycombed grille with 'quattro' detail and fixed spoiler lip. The RS styling continues inside, with RS Sport seats, sport steering wheel with flattened bottom edge and Audi Sport touches for instrument inlays.
Coming optionally is the Audi virtual cockpit system, which is placed in the instrument binnacle replacing the conventional dials. The standard dials are black with red needles and white detailing. In the central console is a seven-inch touchscreen display, the Audi MMI infotainment system includes navigation, entertainment and statistical features to ensure you’re up to date.
Also coming as standard is the range is some of Audi's latest assistance systems, making sure you stay in the right lane, avoid pedestrian collisions and see dangers ahead on the road with road sign recognition. New additions include traffic jam assist – to aid the driver in slow moving traffic – and cross traffic assist to help detect vehicles and other obstacles while reversing.
This latest addition to the Audi range is due for release at the end of 2017, and to stay up to date with the Audi RS 3 Saloon, contact your nearest Inchcape Audi Centre.
