The hotly-contested SUV sector is becoming more crowded with great cars that anyone would want.
So what is Audi’s response to the challenge? The new Q5 of course, which improves on the already great first generation to push Audi further to the front of the SUV field.
This new version has plenty to live up to as the first generation was the best-selling SUV while it was on sale, but thanks to the evolution of the model, the second generation should take the Q5 even further ahead in the market.
With this second version 90kg lighter, the interior space has been increased for more headroom and rear legroom as well as rear luggage capacity being enlarged by ten litres. With all the rear seats folded down it yields a 1,550 litre capacity in the rear section.
The new Q5 is fitted with the latest virtual cockpit system, which uses a 12.3-inch screen in the instrument binnacle and an 8.3-inch touchscreen display to show the MMI multimedia system. It also comes with Audi navigation, which includes the personal route assist system that learns regular routes and gives updates on traffic and travel times.
Under the bonnet, the Q5 can be fitted with a selection of three engines – two diesels and one petrol – that are more efficient than before, with all three fitted with the renowned quattro all-wheel drive system.
The chassis has also been improved for a more dynamic feel, and with Audi drive select you can choose the spring and damper settings for your own preference. Torque vectoring also helps to provide dynamic and precise driving.
