These days, we’re all a lot more money-conscious than we were before.

Audi A3 e-tron It makes sense, of course, that if you’re going to spend money on a brand-new premium car, you want to get the most go for your dough.

If you’re looking for a car that can blend luxury and efficiency without scrimping on performance, then the Audi range is definitely worth a closer look. At present, Audi offers some of the most high quality cars available, as well as some of the most efficient thanks to the range of ever-improving technology.

With smart styling, well-designed engines and an engaging driving experience, we’ve selected some of the best from Audi’s exciting new model range, so that you can get the most out of what you pay.

Audi A1

Since its launch four years ago, the Audi A1 has been the go-to car for buyers looking for premium flair in the supermini segment.

The dinky Audi mightn’t be as large as some of its cousins, but it features all the same high-spec inclusions that’s come to be associated with the brand and more than gives its rivals a run for their money.

With prices starting from just £14,115 for the entry-level A1 model, it’s also extremely competitive, and the range-topping S Line model starts from just £17,915.

For that money, the top of the line A1 comes complete with additional exterior tweaks over the base model, including a roof spoiler, high-gloss front grille and exclusive S Line styling.

There’s also leather cladded seats, leather trimming on the gear knob and steering wheel, plus an aluminium steering wheel inlay with the S Line badging.

Bucking the supermini trend somewhat, the A1 offers two turbocharged petrol engines and a 1.6-litre TDi diesel.

The latter produces 104bhp and can complete the 0-62mph sprint in just over 10 seconds, while the S Line sports suspension and well-weighted steering keeps the ride comfortable and road grip at an optimum.

Emissions are impressively low, with just 99g/km of CO2 produced by the 1.6-litre diesel, making it exempt from road tax, and fuel economy at an average of 68mpg.

Audi A3 Sportback e-tron

The first plug-in hybrid model to be added to the award-winning A3 range, the Sportback e-tron offers impressive power and performance in a single and efficient package.

Combining a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine with an electric motor, the A3 Sportback e-tron has a combined power output of 201bhp with 2350Nm of torque.

The result will take the model to 62mph from a standstill in just 7.6 seconds before going on to a top speed of 137mph.

Four driver-selectable modes are available in order to prioritise power settings. Drivers can select the EV mode to use the electric motor exclusively, or a hybrid auto mode for long journeys which mixes the output of the electric motor with the conventional engine.

As well as that, hybrid hold mode will store battery charge in the motor for later use, while hybrid charge mode uses the conventional combustion engine as a generation to recharged the e-tron’s battery.

With space inside for five adults, the e-tron also boasts a 280-litre boot that can expand to 1,120 litres with the rear seats folded.

This means that not only is the A3 Sportback e-tron an impressively high-performance model, it’s also extremely practical for the whole family.

Standard fittings on the model match the rest of Audi’s premium range, with equipment including the exclusive e-tron exterior styling, plus LED headlights and specially-designed 17-inch alloy wheels.

Rear parking sensors, light and rain sensors plus navigation systems and Audi connect in-car internet access are also all included in the standard model.

The A3 Sportback e-tron comes with two charging leads, one designed specifically for public charging points and the other for domestic use, with interchangeable connectors for charging via high-voltage industrial sockets.

Full battery charge can be achieved in just four hours from a domestic socket, while a high-voltage charge point will reduce the time to just over two hours.

Orders for the new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron can be placed now. The model is priced from £29,950 and the first deliveries are expected early next year.

Audi Q5

One of the best 4x4 models on sale in the UK right now, the Audi Q5 has won the hearts and minds of the nation thanks to its stand-out combination of driveability, practicality and efficiency.

If you’re in the market for a larger car, perhaps for the family, but don’t want the associated costs of running a large SUV, the Q5 could well be the answer you’ve been looking for.

Plush on the inside, the Q5 features a high quality interior with brushed aluminium detailing, plus a lofty driving position that makes visibility a premium and parking sensors prevent mishaps in tight parking spaces.

The range-topping S Line Plus model adds a leather interior, climate control, cruise control, an electronic handbrake, Bluetooth connectivity, a 6.5-inch colour main display and a 10-speaker stereo.

There a generous space for four adults and 540 litres of space with the rear seats in place which expands to 1,560 litres of luggage space with the rear seats stowed.

Under the bonnet, the S Line comes with a 242bhp 3.0-litre diesel that takes the Q5 from 0-62mph in just 6.5 seconds, a much pacier turn than competitors like the Land Rover Freelander.

The Q5 is also kitted out with some cool technology to help you on your way including hill descent control and traction control, alongside optional Audi Drive Select, which alters the characteristics of the car, including the suspension settings, steering, throttle response and gear change points via a button on the centre console.

For a big car, the Q5 performs quite well both on the road and when it comes to costs, returning on 44.1mpg with CO2 emissions of 169g/km.

Prices for the Q5 range starts from £31,370 and £43,270 for the range-topping S Line Plus.
