Maintaining their position at the top of the ultra-competitive executive class, both the A6 and S6 Saloon have received a series of revisions to improve their styling, equipment, performance and efficiency.
Board Member for Technical Development at Audi AG, Prof Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, commented: "With the new Audi A6, we are writing the next chapter in an excellent success story. It represents innovative technology and Audi's premium claim."
He continued: "The Audi A6 sets new standards in many technical fields: the lightweight body containing many aluminium components, the powerful and highly efficient engines, the sporty chassis and the advanced assistance and multimedia systems."
Under the bonnet there is a range of new or updated engines. According to Audi, four, six and eight cylinder options will offer improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions across the range.
Also on offer is a selection of upgraded gearbox choices and new infotainment system options alongside two ‘Ultra’ models, which are capable of up to 64mpg.
Moving higher up the range, the 3.0-litre V6 common rail diesel used in the A6 3.0 TDI has been tweaked; in single turbocharged form it now offers 215bhp or 268bhp.
The twin-turbocharged version of the engine has also received an upgrade and now manages to produce 315bhp as standard.
There’s also a pair of special-edition models with a more powerful output of 341bhp, the A6 3.0 TDI competition and A6 Avant 3.0 TDI competition, released to mark 25 years of TDI technology.
All engine options come paired with either a standard six-speed manual or optional seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, with the new A6 3.0-litre TDI competition performance diesel running a standard eight-speed auto transmission.
Audi’s Quattro four-wheel drive system is available in A6 models which produce over 268bhp, and can be supplemented with a sport differential that adds traction to each rear wheel individually.
Exterior design tweaks include a revised frame grille, new headlamps, plus updated side sills, bumpers and exhausts.
