Audi A6 Saloon Performance and Handling
Lean and Strong
20 years ago, Audi introduced the first TDI engine and since then we have been continuously refining this class-leading technology.
For example the TDI engine fitted to the 3.0TDI quattro A6 Saloon generates 245PS and 500Nm of torque, enough to propel it's occupants from 0 - 62mph in just 6.1 seconds.
Even more impressive is the low nominal combined fuel consumption of just 41.1MPG and CO2 emissions of 158 g/km.
A ride to suit you
Not all driving situations are the same. Audi drive select, standard across the A6 range, changes handling and response at the touch of a button to suit how you want to drive. There are four modes: Comfort, Dynamic, Auto and Individual.
For long-distances, 'Comfort' adjusts your set-up to create a more relaxing ride. The 'Dynamic' is for a sportier driving experience, sharpening the cars steering and throttle response. The 'Auto' mode adapts the system depending on the current driving situation while 'Individual' allows you to configure the dynamics of the car to your own preferences depending on what special equipment is fitted.
quattro with Sports differential
The sport differential is designed to make driving obviously smoother, more agile and more satisfying - and not just when you're pushing the car towards its limits.
Safe, accurate turning
The sports differential enables the quattro system to not only transfer torque between the front and rear axles to counter traction losses, but also between the rear wheels. When cornering, power is redirected to the outside rear wheel, literally pushing the car through the corner. The driver benefits from feeling more in control and the need to make small steering corrections, so familiar in an ordinary car, become a thing of the past.
You're still in control.
The sport differential has been designed to work in tandem with Audi drive select. This enables you to change the characteristics of the engine, transmission, steering, shock absorbers and the active sport differential to suit your mood and the demands of the road. Audi quattro with Sport differential is available as an option on 3.0TDI quattro and 3.0TFSI quattro derivatives of the A6.
A choice of engines
Thanks to Vorsprung durch Technik, making the choice between petrol and diesel engines isn't as straightforward as it used to be. Engines of both fuel types offer improved power, lower emissions, sporty performance and increased efficiency. Do you prefer the high-torque pulling power of a diesel or the increased response of a petrol engine?
The choice is yours.
TFSI explained
TFSI technology unlocks superior power, more dynamic performance and better economy from petrol engines. In fact, compared with many naturally aspirated engines with more cylinders, TFSI delivers the same sporty performance but using 10 to 15% less fuel.
FSI and turbocharging technology work so well together because the evaporation of fuel in the combustion chamber cools the intake air giving higher compression, improved engine efficiency and, in turn, lower CO2 emissions.
TDI explained
A dedication to pioneering technology has brought Audi peerless expertise in turbocharged diesel engines. All Audi TDI engines are equipped with common rail and piezo injectors to achieve smooth, efficient and quiet combustion. Diesel fuel related emissions are also significantly reduced thanks to a diesel particulate filter, fitted as standard, which filters out almost all soot particles contained in the exhaust gas.
The turbocharger has variable turbine vane geometry to help produce higher torque and greater power for the cubic capacity of the engine. And sophisticated air-flow control also contributes to the engine's capabilities while simultaneously reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.
