A1 Comfort & Strorage

Interior space
It’s compact, not cramped
When you take a seat in the Audi A1, what strikes you is the feeling of spaciousness. True, it’s a compact car on the outside so it’s easy to park and efficient to drive. But major design consideration has been put into how everything fits together on the inside.

The Audi A1 can fit 4 adults.

Steering Wheel
More control at your fingertips
The leather-trimmed multi-function steering wheel, which is an option, makes driving even more of a pleasure – and safer too. Numerous frequently used controls can be operated while your hands are still in a normal driving position. For example, you’ll be able to switch channel on the radio and change tracks on the CD player. With optional mobile phone preparation, you’ll experience true hands-free mobile operation, making and accepting calls without taking your hands off the steering wheel.

Air Conditioning
Added comfort with climate control
Manual air conditioning comes as standard on the Audi A1. You can also specify 2 zone climate control as an option so you and your front passenger can select your own cabin temperature. Directional vents help keep the two temperatures independent for added comfort.

Boot Capacity
Ample space and a split-folding rear seat for convenience
The Audi A1 features a 50:50 split rear folding seat as standard. This gives an impressive 920 litres of boot space with the seats folded and 267 litres of space when the rear seats are upright

A1 Convenience Features

Light and rain sensor pack
Clear visibility – no matter the conditions
The optional light and rain sensors can automatically activate or deactivate the low-beam headlights and the windscreen wipers when required. This is particularly convenient, for instance, in unpredictable and poor weather, entering tunnels, or simply, when it’s getting dark. And the rain sensor reacts to the strength of the rain - adapting the wiper interval accordingly – meaning you can just concentrate on driving.

Also included in the light and rain sensor pack are auto-dimming rear view and door mirrors

Cruise Control
Cruise control on a compact hatchback
Providing your Audi A1 has the Driver’s Information System, it’s possible to opt for cruise control. At speeds of over 25mph, just a simple, swift operation of the cruise control stalk will hold your speed until you brake or cancel. Cruise control brings significantly more comfort and relaxation to long motorway and dual carriageway driving; one of those things that it becomes difficult to live without.

Central Locking
Central locking and boot release
The Audi A1 has central locking as standard – so whichever model you choose, you’ll never have to fumble with keys.

As always, your safety is taken into prime consideration: it’s possible to unlock only the driver’s door. And when you move off, all Audi vehicles automatically lock all the doors above 10mph.

Audi Music Interface: your music goes with you
A very wide range of portable music devices can integrate with your car via the optional Audi Music Interface. Once installed, they can be controlled with the Multi Media Interface (MMI) or multifunction steering wheel. Supported devices include USB memory sticks, portable hard discs, mobile phones, and Apple iPods – even portable cassette players.

Your own personal jukebox

If you have chosen the HDD-based Satellite Navigation system, the good news is you don’t actually have to take any of these things with you. Simply download, via CDs, USB sticks or SD memory cards up to 4,000 music tracks on to its hard drive and create your own personal jukebox.

MMI 3G
The latest Multimedia Interface – MMI 3G +
MMI 3G+, satellite navigation and entertainment system, is just one example of the innovative technology which is available on the Audi A1.  The MMI 3G+ system includes:
A completely new user interface featuring icons which are easier to operate and more intuitive
Voice control which allows whole-word inputs
2D and 3D map display for navigation
Complete navigation address input in one single command
Wireless music streaming from compatible mobile phone to the car’s audio system
20GB hard drive jukebox
Playback of compatible video files
SD card reader

Mobile Phones
Keeping your hands on the wheel
A built in Bluetooth hands-free phone system is standard on SE models and above.

The options

Mobile phone preparation
This feature provides a Bluetooth connection for your mobile phone. This means that your phone can be operated using the multifunction steering wheel in conjunction with the Driver’s Information System.

In addition to standard hands-free functionality such as accepting/rejecting calls and hands-free communication, mobile phone preparation provides direct access to entries and phone numbers stored in the address book of compatible phones.

Mobile phone preparation high
This innovative phone solution offers an unprecedented level of convenience, as it becomes possible to literally leave your phone ‘in your jacket pocket’ and still operate it using the car controls as outlined above. In effect, the mobile phone in your jacket pocket serves merely as a mobile SIM card reader. The phone calls are made using the car so mobile phone battery life is greatly increased and reception is improved as you are using the car’s antenna.

Mobile phone preparation low
Mobile phone preparation low, standard on SE models and above, comprises a user-friendly hands-free unit, a high-performance external aerial and a charger. Your mobile phone is paired with the system by way of Bluetooth or a cradle adapter which can be obtained from your Audi Centre. The big advantage of this system is that the cradle adaptor uses the cars external antenna and power supply to make and receive calls which improves call quality and reduces handset battery consumption. The phone can also be operated from the multi-media interface as well as via the multifunction steering wheel in conjunction with the Driver’s Information System.

A1 Safety

Protection
Helping to keep you and your passengers safe

Brake system
The high-performance brake system combines short braking distances, sensitive control and optimum cooling, for a consistently effective performance even after repeated applications. ABS antilock braking and EBD provide extra peace of mind if you need to stop suddenly.

SIDEGUARD®
In the event of a side impact, side airbags will activate, preventing occupant injury. The head-level airbag covers the entire front and rear side-window including the A-post area.
Intelligent airbag system
In the event of an accident, intelligent impact sensors – including an innovative ‘up-front’ sensor – will detect the severity and nature of the impact and trigger the appropriate occupant protection systems.

A1 Safety

ISOFIX Anchor Points
Child safety as standard
With ISOFIX, compatible child safety seats can be fitted swiftly and securely. On each outer rear seat and the front passenger seat, ISOFIX mounting points are provided. The front passenger airbag can be deactivated for when a child seat is present. ISOFIX mountings are standard across the model range.

Electronic Safety System
The onboard technologies on Audi vehicles make them some of the safest in the world – especially when road conditions are less than perfect.

ABS
The Anti-lock braking system works by momentarily releasing and then applying the brakes when it detects a skid resulting in reduced stopping distances and the ability to turn under emergency braking.

ASR
Anti-slip regulation – or traction control – reduces power to any wheel that is in danger of spinning. Full power is returned when traction is re-established.

EBD
Electronic brake-force distribution works in conjunction with ABS to ensure an even maximum braking force between the front and rear wheels.

EDL
The electronic differential lock allows a smooth getaway on surfaces with mixed levels of grip.

ESP
Audi’s electronic stability programme uses the four technologies above. It identifies the intended direction and applies braking to individual wheels to help keep the car stable.

A1 Engines

Engines and CO2
Not surprisingly the latest addition to the Audi range employs the most compact and fuel efficient Audi engines, all of which compensate very effectively for their relatively small displacements with the latest turbo charger technology. The A1 will be available with three impressively frugal units, a new 1.2 TFSI petrol engine with 86PS, a 1.4 TFSI petrol engine with 122PS and a diesel 1.6TDI engine with 105PS, all optimised by engine start-stop and energy recuperation systems to achieve low CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.

The 1.4 TFSI will also be available with standard manual transmissions, as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG S tronic gearbox and start-stop technology.

A1 Engines

TFSI Explained
TFSI: Direct petrol injection and turbocharging combined
TFSI technology unlocks superior power, more dynamic performance and better economy from petrol engines.
For example, the 1.4-litre version of the TFSI engine features great economy and, thanks to its turbocharger, manages to deliver an amazing torque top speed. Quite simply, it feels as though it’s a bigger engine than it is.

You’ll notice enhanced driving enjoyment with spontaneous and dynamic torque build up. In turn, this encourages you to change up earlier so you don’t feel the need to rev the engine so much, promoting greater efficiency.

TFSI & FSI Explained
TFSI: Direct injection petrol and turbocharging combined
TFSI technology unlocks superior power, more dynamic performance and better economy from petrol engines. In fact, compared with many naturally aspirated engines with more cylinders, TFSI delivers the same sporty performance but using 10 to 15% less fuel.

FSI and turbocharging technology work so well together because the evaporation of fuel in the combustion chamber cools the intake air giving higher compression, improved engine efficiency and, in turn, lower CO2 emissions.

TDI Explained
TDI – and the most fuel-efficient Audi ever
A dedication to pioneering technology has brought Audi great expertise in turbocharged diesel engines. All Audi TDI engines are equipped with common rail technology to achieve smooth, efficient and quiet combustion. Diesel fuel related emissions are significantly reduced thanks to a diesel particulate filter, fitted as standard, which filters out almost all soot particles contained in the exhaust gas.

The turbocharger has variable turbine vane geometry to help produce higher torque and stronger pulling power. And sophisticated air-flow control also contributes to the engine’s capabilities while simultaneously reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.

A1 Saving You Fuel

TDIe
Start-stop technology
All engines available on the Audi A1 feature start-stop.
When you’re stuck in traffic or stopped at traffic lights, your idling engine still uses fuel. Our start-stop technology switches off the engine when you’re not moving and out of gear.

The starting procedure is triggered as soon as your foot depresses the clutch and you’re up and running by the time you’ve selected a gear. Simple. This saves on energy, CO2 emissions and up to 0.4l of fuel for every 100km.

Recuperation
When you decelerate, the energy created is lost. Brake energy recuperation recycles this energy to lighten the load on your engine. It can reduce fuel consumption by up to 3%.

When you’re coasting or braking, the car’s alternator generates energy. Brake energy recuperation allows this energy to be stored. When you accelerate or drive at a constant speed this stored energy is used so less energy is wasted in driving the alternator. This lowers fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
