If you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component (HRMC) of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Allowance (WMPS), you can use that allowance, or part of it, to lease or buy a new car through Motability. As long as you have 12 months of your award remaining you’re guaranteed to be accepted regardless of age. If you cannot or do not wish to drive, you can choose family members or friends to be the named drivers. Parents who have a child with a disability can also participate in the scheme.

There are two ways to obtain an Audi through Motability: contract hire or hire purchase. Each plan has different benefits depending on your needs. Contract hire allows you to lease an Audi, with many running costs included. Hire purchase is an option that means you can buy your Audi outright over the life of the agreement.

The contract hire option

The contract hire option within Motability allows you to ‘rent’ your car instead of buying it. At the end of three years the vehicle is returned and a new car can be provided.

One of the benefits of contract hire is that the majority of the running costs of the car are paid for by Motability. These include:

Insurance
Personal accident cover
Breakdown assistance
Car tax in the UK
Replacement tyres
Windscreen and window repair or replacement
Service and maintenance with travel assistance

This means that the only real contributions left to pay are fuel and water.

To lease a new Audi from Motability, you’ll need to pay an advance payment. This sum will vary depending on the Audi you choose and your benefit category.

The contract hire option also has a mileage limit of 60,000 miles over the three years of the agreement.

If you feel this option isn’t right for your particular needs then you may wish to look at the hire purchase option.

The hire purchase option

There are many reasons to want to own your car outright. For example, your Audi might need special modification or you might want to travel more than 60,000 miles over the course of your agreement.

Hire purchase is a simple and straightforward way to buy your Audi. You can pay for your car over three to five years using your mobility allowance. Once all the payments have been made, you become the owner of the car.

Unlike the contract hire system you are responsible for all the costs of running the vehicle. This option requires you to pay for insurance, breakdown cover, new tyres, car tax disc, MOT and servicing, as well as fuel and water. Your new Audi would require an advance payment, which is a non-refundable deposit. You should expect that your DLA or WPMS will continue for the full period of the agreement.

You’ll need to show your Audi accredited Dealer the following information:

Your driving licence
Award entitlement notice
Proof of address, e.g. a recent utility bill
Details of any named drivers for your lease and their driving licences
Details of any driving accidents or convictions involving you or your named drivers

Your Audi Motability specialist will provide you with a CP50 form which you’ll need to have stamped and processed by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). Once you’ve chosen your Audi and completed the paperwork, your order can be processed that day.

Your Audi Motability specialist will contact you with a confirmed delivery date.

You should return the CP50 form to the Dealership before picking up your new Audi.
